5/28/19 Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones and Robert DeNiro star in "The Comeback Trail" - Albuquerque Business First

Morgan Freeman is among the cast set to shoot "The Comeback Trail" in New Mexico starting in June.

Oscar winning trio Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones and Robert De Niro are coming to New Mexico to star in a new feature film, "The Comeback Trail."

New Mexico Film Office Director Todd Christensen announced in a press release that the feature will begin preliminary photography shoots from early June to early July. The production will shoot in locations across New Mexico, including Albuquerque, To'hajiilee, Bonanza Creek Ranch and Yrisarri.

The production is expected to employ about 390 New Mexico workers as cast, crew and extras for the film. The production is directed by George Gallo and produced by Richard Salvatore and David Ornston.

Christensen said New Mexico offers "world class studios" that range from ranches to tribal lands.

Last week, the New Mexico Film Office announced that "Bios" starring Tom Hanks wrapped production in New Mexico. "Bios" employed over 530 New Mexicans for the production, seven of whom were New Mexican actors.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham in a press release commended large productions such as "Bios" for utilizing the diverse rural areas across New Mexico.

Lujan Grisham signed a bill earlier this year that increased the New Mexico film and television tax credit capacity to $110 million. The tax credit allows up to 25% reimbursement of preauthorized fees paid by the film industry. To receive this tax credit, film production must be completed and necessary paperwork and receipts must be filed.

"The Comeback Trail" is about two movie producers who owe a debt to the mob. The film is in pre-production and does not yet have a release date, according to IMDb.
