Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies expands in ABQ

As one Honeywell subsidiary plans to depart the Duke City, potentially leaving hundreds of skilled tech workers jobless, another is on the tail end of a quiet expansion.

Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies, based in Kansas City, Missouri, is in the midst of adding thousands of employees companywide for a surge in work with the National Nuclear Security Administration over a two-year period ending this year.

Some of those new jobs have landed in the Duke City, and more are on the way.

The company will look to immediately fill around 50 technical positions in the coming weeks for its Albuquerque operations, spokeswoman Tanya Snyder confirmed with Business First. It is seeking technicians, manufacturing, quality assurance and engineering professionals, Snyder said.

Honeywell FM&T employs about 250 in Albuquerque among eight offices. Its main facility is located at 2540 Alamo Ave. SE, with another nearby on Air Park Road. It manages the NNSA's National Security Campus in Missouri, where most of its workers are stationed.

The upcoming hiring round will mark a turning point for the company in Albuquerque. By the end of the hiring streak, which kicked off in 2017,the subsidiary will have increased its local head count from 200 to over 300, according to Snyder.

The available positions could provide an opportunity for those set to lose their jobs at Honeywell Aerospace, slated to leave Albuquerque by the end of the year. That arm of the conglomerate employs around 400 in town, Business First reported.

"Where there are similarities [in the type of work done], we are definitely partnering," with the sister subsidiary, Snyder said, adding the company has brought on 35 from Honeywell Aerospace in the past 18 months. The company is hosting a hiring event in Albuquerque at the end of the month.
